An enjoyable day out at Farndale. The daffodils were on time this year.

The walk in Harwood Dale started off with small animals entertaining us and ended with small animals entertaining us at 'The Grainary' where we had tea & tea-cakes after the walk. In-between we had large animals (cows) moving very fast and we were moving very fast!! so no pictures. We had lunch at the derelict St. Margaret's Church in Harwood Dale that Sir Thomas Posthumous Hoby built in 1634 in memory of his wife Margaret who had died in 1633,

The woods were awash with Bluebells & Wood Anemone and a little Robin entertained beautifully

We were in Glaisdale today for a 12 miler, it was a good day ending in a local tea room being served tea in individual little tea-pots all in different colours - it was lovely - the cakes were good too!

Saturday 7th June saw us out at 'The Hayburn Wyke' for a social evening. It was good food, good beer and good company. 'Triolgy' was the band playing and everyone enjoyed their music until the early hours
13th July 2014 - A day out at Hebden Bridge
The Pack Horse Bridge, from which the town gets it's name, is 500 years old
The Railway Station, still in the Victorian style, is unusual in having 'off-set' platforms, usually they are opposite each other and this is the only one that Bryan knows of in this country.
Bryan's group enjoyed a canal walk to the Stubbings Wharf Pub and back
Adrians group enjoyed a seven mile walk finding a convenient picnic bench at lunch time and finishing along the Canal.
Ken & Eileen's group were straight into a 1,300 ft climb up Stoodley Pike to the monument at it's summit. The monument we see today was designed by local architect James Green in 1854 and completed in 1856. It replaced the original monument which was started in 1814 to commemorate the defeat of Napoleon and the surrender of Paris and completed in 1815 after the battle of Waterloo. It collapsed in 1854 after a lightning strike.

The walk started at Danby Visitor Centre where they were having an open day so it was very busy.
The ponies on the moors decided to join us for lunch and Janice got artisic with her camera

We were in the hands of 'Learner Leaders' today when Angela & Janet led their first walk. We left Kirham Priory and walked along the bank of the river Derwent toward Howshan Mill where we were given a guided tour of the restored building
The mill was built for the Chomeley family in 1755 to grind grain and the last bag of flour was ground in 1947.
In 2006 the mill featured on the BBC’s Restoration Village, presented by Griff Rhys Jones, and won the north’s regional heat.

The Tuesday Toddlers Trek
Members enjoyed the second 16 mile linear offered by the Tuesday Toddlers.
Leaving Sherburn at 9.30am and taking the Yorkshire Wolds Way along
West Heslerton Brow and Knapton Brow they had lunch at the

then headed off to Wintringham,Thorpe Bassett and Settrington arriving in Malton at 4.50pm where they received their badges from Mike, no time for afternoon tea on this occasion as the bus back to Sherburn left at 5.10pm

We were back in the hands of a Learner Leader today as Helen led us on her first walk at Rievaulx.

It was a wonderful day for this walk for the first time in 4 years
For the last three years it had to be cut short because of bad weather and we had to huddle in the doorway of St Aiden's Church in Gillamoor for lunch so it was a real treat to sit on the green outside with the sun on our faces this year.
St Gregory's Minster, Kirkdale was rebuilt around 1054 because the original church of 654 AD was destroyed by the raiding Danes. The ancient Sundial above the church doorway dates back to the 11th century and has a rare Old English inscription on it

It was a walk of Locks & Bridges today when we went on a coach trip to Pocklington for linear walks along the Canal. Three different lengths were offered - 9 miles - 6 1/2 miles and 3 1/2 miles with all walks finishing in Pocklington
